RULES & GAME INFO

▼ Game Premise

You felt as if the story of your adventure in your own hometown had ended, and for some reason you've decided that it's time to take on another new journey. So you packed up your things and set off towards the horizon, letting the path ahead or the wind take you wherever you go. Or maybe that's not how it went and you were just drawn into visiting this particular location but you can't figure out for what reason. Maybe you have decided to move into this city. Are you there for some sightseeing? ...Or perhaps you were taken there against your will?

Well whatever the reason, you have arrived. Whether be it by train, by bus, or you just drove through the expressway, a sign greets you as you arrive indicating your current location.

In the City of New Opportunities, what sort of future will you shape for this town?

The Ultra Zone is a jamjar/pan-fandom, open RP musebox where its setting and themes are inspired by Japanese tokusatsu shows and movies, but more specifically around the Ultraman series of TV shows with elements of Granzella's disaster survival thriller games Disaster Report and City Shrouded in Shadow.

The themes lean towards sci-fi, mystery, and superhero action due to its setting being based off the Ultra series. Although there will be some plot progression via mod and player-run events, the core focus of the game is character development and building new relationships through their experience of being displaced and somewhat isolated in a parallel world that is both familiar yet alien to the character.

▼ Musebox Rules

Be respectful! — To experience the full enjoyment of the game, it's important to be mindful of what you post in the comms. Keep in mind that we're here for pretendy funtimes, so don't take everyone's IC tags too seriously. Know each other's boundaries, be civil and please resolve any differences through communication!

Avoid NSFW content on main! — We're not exactly a smut game, so we feel it would be highly inappropriate to post graphic depictions of sexual acts and/or erotic content at the front of the musebox. Please be considerate of other players who may be minors playing this game too. If you would like to tag 18+ content in your thread, it's best you move that privately into your journals or museboxes and add a content warning to it as well.

Use journal tags! — To keep things organized, please use the appropriate tags in your opening posts.

No godmodding! — I must stress that this is a very important rule. Because godmodding is very much frowned upon and will not be tolerated within the game. Examples include:
  • Controlling another character's actions without the players' permission.
  • Your character knowing things they weren't supposed to know.
  • Strongly asserting your character is stronger or smarter than the other's.

▼ Character Arrival Information

Tsujikawa City — This is the game's setting and where most events will take place, it's a parallel version of Earth that's almost uncannily similar to ours, but at the the same time it isn't.

Before arriving, you can choose whether Tsujikawa exists in your character's world or not. Because upon arrival, if they do plan to visit Tsujikawa, they should be unaware of the fact they were instead transported to an alternate parallel world version of the city. The Tsujikawa City they know of is not the same as the one they are in currently. Otherwise, they can just walk in confused, whether they be from a fantasy world, the future, or the afterlife!

You can read up more information about Tsujikawa City and the world of Ultra Zone in this link.

Ways of Communicating — Communication will be limited to just talking face-to-face at first, as their phones or any similar communication device won't be able to reach out to anyone due to being in a different world. This however can be resolved by just replacing their phone's SIM card with the ones natively created in Tsujikawa, or setting their device to a different specific frequency. They still won't be able to call back their home world though.

Your character can still use social media networks to communicate too, though with the probable minor inconvenience of signing up for a new account because their old account suddenly no longer exists.

Items: On — Your character will still have their items with them. Nothing will be stripped away. Or maybe you choose to have them trip and lose their items. Sucks to be them I guess-

Powercap: Off — That's right. They will arrive in the city at full power with no changes whatsover. Nothing will hold your character back. They have no limits!! Well... with the exception of the anti-godmodding rule in place. We only trust that your character wouldn't go batshit insane with their powers and break reality as we know it in an instant. But if you're not sure how much power they can have, you can always ask the mods.

Not human? No problem! — If your character shows up in their true non-human form, no doubt they will be getting stares and weird looks from the general public passing by. While there will be some who would take out their phones and record or livestream your character's appearance, most would likely take a momentary glance before pacing away either out of fear or just not wanting to interact. So as long as your character behaves, nothing much will happen.

Possible language barrier — If your character isn't a native Japanese speaker or even half-fluent in the language itself, chances are they will definitely struggle in communicating with other characters and NPCs. While your character can probably get by with some basic English, if they're lucky they have their phone with them, they can rely on a machine translator app for the meantime even if it's like 70-80% gramatically correct.

If your character isn't sure how to ask for directions to a specific place, a Koban (small neighborhood police station) is the best place to go! Most police officers in Tsujikawa are trained to direct tourists to their destination.

Housing and accomodations — Depending on your character's plans and motives in Tsujikawa, there are plenty of places for them to stay such as hotels and hostels, provided they can afford those. If they drove into Tsujikawa by car, they can opt to sleep in there too, sure.

Leaving Tsujikawa — While no one can stop your character from leaving, there's no guarantee they can return to their home world and there's a very low chance that they'd be able to somehow. Unless they have the ability to just jump dimensions, then good for them! Too bad for everyone else though.

On the plus side, they can probably do some sightseeing around the world.

But who brought my character to this Tsujikawa?Isn't that the mystery? We're not quite sure how it happened either. But whether or not your character wants to solve this little conundrum is completely up to them.

▼ Game Mechanics Information

No need to know about tokusatsu to play! — If you have watched any of the shows, great! Otherwise, it's totally fine if you didn't. What matters here is how your character will interact with the world of Ultra Zone and what they must do when faced through challenges such as surviving a giant kaiju attack or an alien invasion. Of course, they also will be interacting with other characters and develop new bonds (or break them) as the world moves. We're here to make new stories for our characters, which I think is the fun part about roleplaying! :)

No app needed, just click Join! — This is an open RP musebox. So no need to worry about writing down their histories or setting up a third-person sample with a 300 word count limit. We only trust that you can write, and you can play your character well.

Once you've joined both the IC and OOC Communities, please visit this link so you can fill up the contact form.

All fictional characters welcome! — Since it is of the panfandom genre, this game is open to characters beyond the sphere of tokusatsu. So characters from video games, books, TV shows, etc. are allowed to play in this musebox. AU versions of said characters, CRAU ones, as well as OCs are also allowed inside as well! The only types we don't allow are real people and mythological figures (unless they come from a very specific canon.)

No canon duplicates — That said, we do have a line drawn for this. So we can't allow more than two similar versions of the same character. If two players wanted to bring in the same character from the same series but from different points in their canon, we can't accept that, and the other may have to throw in a different character instead. And as mentioned above, we do allow AU versions of said characters, as long as their AU has clearly defined differences from their original canon.

Character Limit — At the moment we will only allow three (3) characters per player.

Backtagging encouraged! — There are no activity checks in this game, so you can respond to players' characters at your own pace. Most of us here probably have a long work day, and using this spare time to have fun. So as a musebox we're trying to accomodate to those who wanted some slow-paced tagging action.

Events — Events will run once per month and its themes will alternate from heavy to lighthearted to give everyone a breather from time to time. It can be a kaiju attack, an attempted alien invasion, a supervillain plot where they turn people into lazy bums in their plan to ruin the city's economy, bodyswapping, etc. Though there will be the occassional mod-run plot event, players are encouraged to come up with suggestions for future events!

As an addendum, these events are totally optional to join so don't feel pressured to opt-in. Your character can hide in a bunker and chill with their plate of curry while a giant robot wreaks havoc in the city if you'd like.

Death is permanent — Well, sort of. There may be events where they offer you a chance to bring a character back to life, but the likelihood of that happening is very slim, and even so the process of resurrecting said character will be slow. If you want your character to die, you'll really need to plot this out very carefully, because there's no means of getting back to life. Make their death count.

On dropped characters — Dropping a character is no hassle, you just hop on over to the drops post and let us know. Though ICly, characters will assume that the dropped character has either left Tsujikawa to travel elsewhere, or have finally managed to returned home.

Spotting lore tidbits — There will be some bits of lore about Tsujikawa and the world of Ultra Zone sprinkled around the game, but a lot of these are very minor and only serve as flavor text.

And that's about all the info! For more questions and concerns, drop them all here in the comments below. We'll do our best to answer them ASAP. :)
